What if Romeo and Juliette were from the Balkan? “Infidelity” by Dejan Trajkoski is a novel about Love. Or, to be more precise, a novel that deals with aspects of possibility and (or) impassibility of perfect love. And, ofroot course, analysis of truth. Overall, the novel tells us about the biggest infidelity of all: infidelity towards ourselves. Philosophical contemplations written on simple but creative way, prose strongly colored with poetry, brave view of history of Macedonia and Balkan at the beginning of 20-th century – are just several of “literature spices” that one can found in this novel. “Infidelity” is set at the beginning of 20-th century. Sunny, a boy with a name borrowed from the Son, and Luna, the girl with the name borrowed from the Moon, are in love. But, at the beginning of 20-th century in Macedonia and in Balkan this Romeo and Juliette story cannot be simple and ordinary. They are not allowed to get married, and, instead of killing themselves, like their fictional sufferers, Sunny has to go to America to earn money for her hand. And so he does, for a girl that he was “moving” the mountains from one place to another. And that’s why he is surprised when he starts to have feelings about another woman just several days after he leaves Macedonia. Sunny is analyzing himself why he is constantly attracted by women, even beside the fact he is in love with Luna. His life continues with constant fight between himself and his desire for love and passion towards another women. This novel is focused on revealing aspects of betrayal and infidelity, mixed with the view of the history in Macedonia and Balkan, written with a lively, stylishly tinted, conversational sentence.
